Every adventure starts somewhere. Start your adventure with a good pup.
UPLAND HUNTING
The English Cocker Spaniel has been coined the term the "pocket rocket" as they have an amazing drive in the field. Flushing and Retrieving quail, chukar, grouse & pheasant is what these dogs have been bred for, and their passion for birds & the hunt is absolutely stunning. English Cockers love being out searching for game, and have been a flushing breed gun dog for centuries. |
ADVENTURE DOG & COMPANION
Looking for your fur-ever friend? You will never feel alone again with an English Cocker. This breed is loving and kind. They love cuddling on the couch, as well as being ready for a hike or a trip to the park. A perfect movie night companion for all ages. If you love the outdoors and hiking, these dogs are ready to go. If you enjoy a stroll through town and a stop at the coffee shop, they love to go anywhere with you. |
Our puppies
We breed about two litters per year. if you are considering a puppy, contact us
All of our dogs are tested and are genetically clear for all inheritable genetic diseases in their breed specific panel through parentage.
What does that mean? We use Embark to genetic test all of adult ECS. We use OFA for screening Hips & Patellas as their breed requires. All of our breeding dogs OFA CHIC information can be found on OUR DOGS
When you pick your pup up they will have had some exposure to crate training, place boards, some clicker work, and positive reward training. If you are looking to hunt, let us know and they will have some bird exposure.
We do Biosensory Training (ENS), and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) with our puppies from days 3-16.
We raise our puppies in the home in a whelping area, and usually after 4-5 weeks they transition to a growing pup area with litter box training areas, crates and enrichment toys.
We practice the Puppy Culture Method our litters that involves developmental milestone challenges, socialization and exposure to many different kinds of experiences.
What is Puppy Culture?:
On the top level, Puppy Culture is a socialization and training program specifically developed for puppies from birth through the end of their critical socialization period, with age appropriate protocols and lessons laid out in an organized format. The program consists of videos, books and a Workbook that can be found on our website: http://shoppuppyculture.com/ But that really does not get to the "why" of Puppy Culture, or what makes it different.
Puppy Culture is based on the premise that the puppy always leads the learning, and puppies learn best by appropriate experiences at the appropriate time. So what we are doing is teaching you to observe the puppy, and, based on the behavioral markers you see, serve the puppy the experience or lesson that is optimal for him at that moment in time.
By letting the puppy lead, we are:
•maximizing the benefit of any given protocol or lesson,
•minimizing any danger of overfacing or scaring the puppy
•creating confidence and self-efficacy by presenting the appropriate level of challenge that the puppy CAN do without failing or presenting a danger to himself.
Finally, we teach owners to enjoy each puppy for the precious individual he is, and to tease out the best qualities in that puppy, rather than holding the puppy up to an arbitrary yardstick and labeling him as a problem if he does not measure up.
Many puppies are labeled as having behavior or temperament issues when they are simply being served an inappropriate experience for their developmental age. This can hobble the puppy for the rest of his life with an unjust label that will cause people to treat him in an unthoughtful manner. By letting the puppy lead, you avoid this and enjoy your puppy for the wonderful individual that he is.
So you watch the puppy and see what learning experience he's ready for. And learning what those experiences are and how to effectively serve them is a big part of the Puppy Culture program.
Why is this so important? Because things that are perfect in one developmental period could be useless or even detrimental in the next, and vice versa. So we teach you to know where you puppy is developmentally, and what to do right now.
Yes, Puppy Culture is a "positive," reinforcement-based program and we do not use corrections or outmoded dominance theory, but that is really all a by product of observing the puppy and serving him the learning experience he is asking for.
And I will add that our program is based on the latest science and studies on puppy and animal rearing, and we include many experts and authors in the film to further explain the logic of the program. (from creator Jane Messineo Lindquist who recently have a great explanation of what this training brings to the puppies).
Puppies tails are docked to field length and rear dew claws are removed between 3-5 days by our veterinarian.
Our puppies can be registered through the AKC and their registration applications are provided at pick up.
We microchip puppies with AKC Reunite chips at 7 weeks, and their first round of vaccinations are also given at 7 weeks of age.
Due to COVID we are not shipping puppies, they must all be picked up in Southern Oregon.
We pride ourselves on our puppies, and on giving them a good beginning for their new lives with you.
If you think that the Field bred English Cocker Spaniel may be the breed for you, contact us about our availability.
Or if you are looking for a pup when we do not have a litter, we may be able to direct you to other breeders who may have litters available in your area.
